WFP operates entirely on voluntary contributions. Governments are the most important donors, because WFP does not receive a pre-determined UN budget. The German government has been one of WFP's most important partners for years.

Germany is the second largest donor to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) after the United States and supports the work of the world's largest humanitarian organization with significant donor funding.

For many years, the German government has helped WFP save millions of lives in crisis and disaster situations.

At the same time, Germany supports WFP's development programs, primarily to eliminate the causes of hunger.

Through many years of cooperation, trust in WFP's work has grown steadily.

While Germany supported WFP with 46.5 million US dollars in 2003, the figure has risen to the sum of more than 1.4 billion US dollars in 2021.

Germany and WFP have thus jointly helped millions of hungry people worldwide.
