This globally unique platform for multilateral exchange is organized by the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). The main theme this year is: “Food systems of the future: Together for a world without hunger”.

At the opening Claudia Müller said:

Almost one in ten people in the world suffers from hunger. The global community has made a promise to end global hunger - we must keep that promise.

The climate crisis is the greatest threat to agriculture worldwide; it does not stop at national borders.

The right to adequate food for all can therefore only be implemented if we make the global agricultural and food systems climate-proof with practical solutions for farmers.

For this we need the international exchange of ideas. Especially in these times when conflicts are intensifying and the world is threatening to break into camps, we want to build bridges with the GFFA.

We are meeting in Berlin in the knowledge that we can and must only advance our most important goal together: that every person in the world has enough to eat.

The focus of the GFFA 2024 will be on four topics:

  1. strengthen sustainable production and food sovereignty;
  2. promote resilient and sustainable supply chains;
  3. reduce food losses and waste;
  4. strengthen vulnerable groups.

Background Information

The GFFA is a firmly established international conference on key future issues in food and agriculture. Today's opening event marks the official start of more than 20 events taking place as part of the GFFA from 17th to 20th January 2024.
