New York, 8 June 2018 - Germany has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2019/20.
In 2015, the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" was adopted by all member states at a special UN summit meeting in New York. The Agenda was developed with broad civil society participation. It represents a milestone in the history of the United Nations.
It is estimated that currently around 815 million people are suffering from hunger and chronic malnutrition. This number marks an increase after the number of starving people steadily declined until 2015.
