Through targeted development cooperation, the BMZ supports countries in the Global South in strengthening their economic and social structures, finding sustainable solutions to challenges such as poverty, inequality, and climate change.
This is achieved through various programs, projects, and partnerships that include both financial and technical assistance.
A central concern of the BMZ is to improve the living conditions of people in partner countries. This includes access to education, health, water and sanitation facilities, as well as promoting gender equality.
Additionally, the BMZ is involved in humanitarian aid to provide rapid and effective support in crisis situations, working closely with international organizations, NGOs, and other governmental actors.

The BMZ pursues several national strategies for development cooperation to achieve its goals:
- National Development Strategy

Important International Projects
- Global Alliance for Food Security (GAFS): This initiative aims to improve global food security, especially in developing countries affected by food shortages.
