Welcome
Rome Nutrition Week 2026: Nutrition as a shared political task
Rome, 25–28 May 2026 – At the headquarters of the FAO in Rome, the Rome Nutrition Week brings together the Rome-based UN organisations and international partners on international food policy.
Rome Nutrition Week
The theme of this year’s Rome Nutrition Week 2026 is: “Shaping the Future of Joint Nutrition Action in a Changing World”.
The global situation remains challenging. Rising food prices, the impacts of climate change, and ongoing conflicts continue to put pressure on food systems worldwide. This directly affects the availability, access, and quality of food.
The Rome-based UN agencies FAO, WFP, and IFAD bring together their respective mandates in food and agriculture, humanitarian food assistance, and rural development. The Rome Nutrition Week provides a platform for policy coordination within the UN system as well as for exchange with Member States.
Germany in the Multilateral Food System
Germany actively participates in the work of the Rome-based UN agencies and follows global food policy processes through its Permanent Representation to the United Nations organisations in Rome.
The Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity (BMLEH) pursues an integrated approach in its national and international food policy, linking food security, health, and sustainability. A key focus is the strengthening of sustainable food systems and improved access to healthy diets.
A concrete example of cooperation with the WFP is the support for school feeding programmes. These programmes help ensure that children around the world have access to a healthy meal at school while also contributing to the strengthening of local food systems.
Germany actively contributes these priorities to its cooperation with FAO, WFP, and IFAD, and supports the further development of joint approaches to strengthening food security and sustainable food systems within the UN framework.
The Rome Nutrition Week provides an important platform for policy coordination among UN organisations and Member States.
