National Strategies and International Projects for Food Security

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is committed to key goals aimed at ensuring the foundations of a balanced, healthy diet.

These include the provision of safe food, transparent consumer information, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

In addition to strengthening rural areas, the BMEL is also dedicated to securing future-proof livestock farming and ensuring global food security.

To address the complex challenges of the future, the BMEL collaborates closely with various authorities and research institutions, which provide scientific expertise and advice to the ministry.

National Strategies

The BMEL develops and implements a range of national strategies aimed at making the food and agricultural sectors more resilient and sustainable:

  • Nutrition Strategy “Good Food for Germany”

This strategy focuses on ensuring a healthy and sustainable diet for the population. More information can be found here.

  • Organic Strategy 2030

The goal of this strategy is to convert 30% of the agricultural and food industries to organic production by 2030. Learn more about this strategy here.

  • Strengthening Biodiversity

This national strategy focuses on preserving genetic resources in food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. Detailed information can be found here.

International Projects for Food Security

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) participates in various international projects that focus on promoting food security, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection.

  • Bilateral Trust Fund (BTF) with FAO

The BTF supports projects to improve food security in developing countries. Further information here.

Forums for Sustainability

In addition to these projects, the BMEL participates in several forums dedicated to promoting sustainable products and processes.

These forums work to improve production standards and supply chains, promoting both ecological and social sustainability in global agriculture.
