The conference is aimed at decision-makers, professionals, representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and others interested in issues related to food and agriculture.

On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Ophelia Nick, the Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), will have the opportunity to meet with the Deputy Directors (DDGs) of the three Rome-based agencies – FAO, WFP, and IFAD.

The high-level meeting provides an opportunity to discuss important issues and challenges in the area of food security and to promote cooperation between the agencies.

Its aim is to strengthen the global response to the challenges of food security and to better coordinate the efforts of the actors involved.

Background Information

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) was established in 1974 and has taken on an increasingly central role in global food security governance following its reform in 2009.

This year, the focus of the session is on:

  • the report on the state of food security for 2024;
  • the approval of CFS products developed during the intersessional period;
  • the update of the CFS work plan for the years 2024 to 2027;
  • the report from an expert group that highlights ways to improve urban and peri-urban food systems to ensure food security;
  • other important topics that the CFS is currently working on.
