National Ocean Conference 2025: Focusing on the Future of the Oceans
Berlin, May 6-7, 2025 - The first National Ocean Conference will take place in Berlin. Experts and decision-makers from around the world will discuss the global protection and sustainable use of the oceans.

In early May, experts, politicians and activists will gather at the Westhafen Event and Convention Center (WECC) in Berlin for the first National Ocean Conference under the theme “Living Oceans”.
The focus will be on the protection and sustainable use of the oceans, which are essential to life on our planet.
The conference will provide a platform for exchange between society, politics, environmental and business associations, companies, marine researchers and representatives of countries and international organizations. Key challenges such as climate change, overfishing and marine pollution will be discussed. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of international agreements and multilateral initiatives, which are essential for the global protection of the oceans.
A particular focus will be on Germany's contributions to the UN Ocean Conference to be held in Nice in June 2025. Conference participants will have the opportunity to share progress and international initiatives on ocean protection and to work together on solutions that can contribute to achieving global environmental goals.
Background Information
Healthy oceans are not only habitats for millions of animals and plants, but also a source of food, livelihoods, and recreation for humans. They also play a critical role in the global climate system. However, the world's oceans are under significant pressure from human activities such as overfishing, plastic waste, and the impacts of climate change.
The National Ocean Conference 2025 is seen as an important contribution to international efforts to protect the oceans. As an active member of international cooperation efforts such as the UN Ocean Conference, Germany promotes the development of global solutions.
The aim is to work together with other nations to develop measures that benefit the oceans and ensure their sustainable use.
