New Memorandum of Understanding Between IFAD and GIZ: Together for Sustainable Agriculture

Hamburg, 8 October 2024 – At the Hamburg Sustainability Conference (HSC), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) signed a new five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The agreement aims to strengthen global agriculture and rural economies sustainably.

The MoU was signed by Anne-Sophie Herken, a member of GIZ's management board, and Donal Brown, Associate Vice-President of IFAD.

Dirk Meyer, the Director-General for Multilateral Development Policy at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), was also present.

The goal of the MoU is to leverage the strengths of both organizations in areas of mutual interest. This partnership contributes to the new strategy of the BMZ, which seeks closer collaboration with international partners.

IFAD and GIZ aim to strengthen their partnership on multiple levels. This includes

  • establishing joint commissions,
  • collaborating on proposals for global funds like the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and
  • aligning their efforts to enhance the effectiveness of projects.

They aim to promote the exchange of technical experts and to collaborate cooperatively in international processes to deepen their cooperation.
